The SynAudCon Story: Over 50 Years of Audio Excellence
SynAudCon was founded in 1973 by Don and Carolyn Davis, who recognized a serious need for standardized training in the audio industry.
After Don spent a year authoring Sound System Engineering—which quickly became the foundational textbook for the industry – the couple then loaded their customized Airstream trailer with state-of-the-art audio equipment, and took their vision of providing real-world audio education to others.
Combining their passion for audio, Don’s talent for teaching, and the concept of “synergy”, Synergetic Audio Concepts (SynAudCon) was born.
For 23 years, Don and Carolyn traveled the world educating, listening, and building the synergetic foundation of pro audio. By the time they passed the torch to Pat and Brenda Brown in 1995, they had trained over 10,000 contractors, designers, and consultants—fundamentally shaping the industry.
Today, Pat and Brenda carry that legacy forward, empowering the next generation of audio practitioners worldwide.
Continuing the Legacy: The Pat and Brenda Brown Story
Married in 1979 and proud parents of 3 children and 8 grandchildren, Pat and Brenda Brown bring a deep sense of family, wholesome values, and dedication to SynAudCon.
Brenda grew up working on a produce farm before earning her nursing degree, while Pat’s passion for audio began playing in high school bands. After earning his Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) degree, Pat purchased a music store, which introduced him to sound system design and installation.
The Turning Point
Like many practitioners, Pat initially relied on intuition—and made the typical job-site mistakes that followed. Pat’s engineering background told him that those failures should have been mathematically predictable. He sought out Don and Carolyn Davis’s seminal textbook, Sound System Engineering, and attended his first SynAudCon seminar. The experience was life-changing. Hooked on principles-first audio, Pat sold his store to become a full-time contractor and consultant.
Carrying the Torch Forward
In 1995, Don and Carolyn invited Pat and Brenda to take over SynAudCon, preserving the dedicated husband-and-wife team model that had proven so successful. Leaving behind two established careers, Pat and Brenda embraced the mission fully.
In 2010, they pioneered SynAudCon’s online training platform and now have a full line up to serve all levels of expertise and disciplines. This expanded our reach around the globe.
Decades later—with thousands of graduates and seminars delivered worldwide—Pat and Brenda continue to lead SynAudCon into the future.
