Filter Behavior

by Pat Brown

Pat Brown have produced some WAV files for various filter types that can be opened in your favorite measurement program so you can study the filter behavior.

A recent long-running thread on the SAC forum discussed the delay characteristics of various filter types. Bill Thrasher wrote an excellent blog on the topic. For those interested in investigating further, I have produced some WAV files for various filter types that can be opened in your favorite measurement program.

The files include:

  • 1 kHz Butterworth High-pass (filter orders 1-4)
  • 1 kHz Butterworth Low-pass (filter orders 1-4)
  • 1 kHz Band-pass (+6 dB, 1-octave)
  • 1 kHz Band-pass (-6 dB, 1-octave)
  • Dirac Pulse

Study the magnitude, phase response and group delay characteristics in the frequency domain. Study the impulse and log-squared impulse responses in the time domain. Mix them in a wave editor to study their combined response.

The files can be downloaded from the Member Files area of the SynAudCon Website. Please login before using the link.  pb
